OHAI!

It's great to see this proof of concept up and running. I'm very interested in getting an ASL Wiktionary up and running (Wiktionary is the dictionary project run by the Wikimedia Foundation, which also runs Wikipedia). There is also a proposal to open an ASL Wikipedia.

I wonder whether you've thought at all about generating useful diffs. As you can see, using the normal MediaWiki diff is useless (and also stretches the page in ways that shouldn't happen).

OHAI!
Thanks for compliment. A Wiktionary and Wikipedia are the goals of the SignWriting MediaWiki Plugin.
Diffs are very important and I'll be adding new line characters to the sign language data so that diff becomes easier to read and more useful. I'm really curious about the best way to present the sign language data. Binary SignWriting describes 3 different character encoding schemes. I'm currently using the compact version for the alpha release of SWMP. The compact has the advantage of small size and human readable. The binary data scheme is probably best used for direct integration with the browser. A base 64 representation of the data will be the most compatible with the existing Internet standards. Just thinking out loud... -Steve 14:22, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
