The ISWA 2008 is the latest symbol set of SignWriting. It is available under the Open Font License.

The name for each symbol in the ISWA 2008 is called the symbol id. The symbol id is a 6 part numbering system.

The symbols are ordered by name. Comparing lists of symbols is used for sorting.

The symbols are used in a 3 layer hierarchy: groups, bases and palettes.

Movement symbols are not part of the ISWA 2008, but are part of the same naming system. An example is x-prop: axes and skateboards.
